I was dying to learn how to swim.
The elementary school had an annual pool day and we all had to go. I didn't even own swim trunks. The kids in the pool made it look so fun and easy, though, and they called to me. I didn't want to miss out, so I jumped in. It didn't end well. Deep end was deeper than I expected, and I sunk like a stone. By the time the lifeguard dredged me out, I was dead as a doorknob. They say the only thing worse than not getting what you wish for is getting it.
